The European Institute of Oncology ( IEO ) is a “comprehensive cancer center” which offers a full integration between the various cancer treatment areas: Laboratory Research, Clinical Research, Prevention, Diagnosis, Treatment and Training.

Breast Cancer

IEO is one of the world’s leading hospitals in Breast Cancer treatment. The Institute has played a major role in developing innovative techniques, some of which are now international standards: Lumpectomy, Sentinel Node Biopsy, Radi-oguided Occult Lesion Localization, Intra-Operative Radiotherapy, Nipple Sparing, Immediate Breast Reconstruction and One-Day Surgery.

The expertise in the diverse areas of Radiology, Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiotherapy, Chemoprevention, Nuclear Medicine and other specialties involved in the management of breast cancer patients work together in order to define the best approach for every single case. A multidisciplinary approach and a strategy that focuses on personalized diagnosis, treatment and follow up are what allows IEO specialists to achieve optimal results in terms of cure, disease control, quality of life.

Prostate, Kidney, Bladder Cancer

The Division of Urology focuses on the treatment of all urological tumors, including prostate, bladder, kidney, testis and penis cancer.

A specialized team operates in the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers guaranteeing 360° patient management by integrating medical and nursing competencies and placing the patient at the center of the therapeutic process.

The Urologic Surgery Division was the first to introduce in IEO the robotic surgery and it always focused on to the minimally invasive approach and in particular on robot assisted treatments. The diseases treated today with robot technology are the prostate cancer and other urological cancers (kidney, adrenal glands and bladder)

Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology includes a range of techniques that rely on the use radiological image guidance (X-ray fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT or MRI scans) to precisely target a treatment. Most interventional radiology treatments are minimally invasive alternatives to traditional surgeries.

At IEO Interventional Radiology is mainly used to treat liver cancer, small kidney cancer and lung metastases; it is also useful to manage the post-surgery complications. IEO is the most advanced developing center in using HIFU technology in the West and has the highest number of HIFU cancer treatments.
